The Pasir Panjang Vocational Institute offered training in the metal trades. It was located along Alexandra Road, in what was previously a British army training depot. Existing sheds and workshops were modified to save on costs.
The institute was officially opened in 1972. It was part of a network of vocational institutes opened by the government in the 1970s to offer technical education and industrial training in Singapore.
