The Graphic Communication Group

A design house that grew into a multimedia consultancy
Founded in 1973 by Lok Lai, the company started as a traditional design house working on annual reports and brochures. It moved into audio-visual services in the early 1980s as it became a highly lucrative industry. The company's clients included creating audio-visuals for Westin Hotel to help sell Raffles City to convention groups and buyers of hotel space.
The company also started a separate section to do sound recording as well as sell and rent equipment. In 1983, the company entered a joint venture with Times Publishing to produce educational videos. In 1989, the industrial group United Engineers acquired a 52.6 per cent of the company as part of plans to diversify into high value-added projects.
